The course activities are pulled from Khan Academy, Master Math, and Good & Beautiful
This is a 180-day course that gives you margin for revision and mastery. Each lesson for the day is numbered 1 – 180. Click on the underlined links to access the activities for each lesson.
The following gives you an overview of what sites you will be using:
- KHAN: Completely online. This course rests on Khan, so you will do the entire grade 6 course. Sign up here. Always log in to keep track of your progress.
- MASTER MATH (MM): These supplementary printables will be done every other day; there are around 30 worksheets with videos. There are online quizzes and extra links, but these can be done only if you score less than 80% on a worksheet. Let each answer = 1 mark or more, at your discretion. Get a total, and then add up how many are correct out of the total to get a percentage.
- GOOD & BEAUTFIFUL: You will download the free workbooks, print and complete only the assessments as revision, at the end of the course.
WHAT YOU NEED:
- The goal charts. Click to print on both sides. Set your DAY numbers for math. These will help you keep track of your progress.
- Have a notebook ready to write notes down when watching the videos and for working out problems.
- The printed *Master Math (MM) worksheets which you will find in each lesson. You do not have to print out the answer keys.
- A file for printed worksheets.
- A Khan Academy account, which you will sign in to keep record of your progress.
- The Good and Beautiful assessments printed out.
- Grit! You need patience with your child and yourself.
- Note: there are some errors, so it is helpful to have AI to assist.
180-DAY GRADE 8 COURSE:
A. GET READY FOR THE COURSE
This is revision week: This is to test your skills and make sure you are ready for grade 8.
If you get below 80% for the course challenge, then do the full get-ready-course or you can do only the quizzes (shown by the thunderbolt symbols) for each unit. If you are struggling or unfamiliar with certain exercises on your course mastery page (the blocks for that unit show up orange/red), click on those exercises and do them until proficient. The unit tests are optional. The goal is to address gaps before you begin grade 8.
Lessons 1 – 5
Day 1 is your course challenge, day 2 is unit 1 quizzes, day 3 is unit 2 quizzes etc…
- Do the Grade 8 Course Challenge– if you get and 80% or above, move on to the actual grade 8 course starting at day 6. Otherwise go to the next lesson and do all the quizzes for the unit.
- Unit 1 – Do the quizzes. Remember if any red /orange blocks show up for each of the units, do those blocks until proficient.
- Unit 2 – Do the quizzes.
- Unit 3 – Do the quizzes.
- Unit 4 – Do the quizzes
BEFORE YOU BEGIN THE GRADE 8 COURSE:
This is optional: Every day, your first task is pre-algebra practice (Start with Units 1,2,3,4,8).
But first do the Pre-Algebra course challenge to ‘test you out’ of the foundational concepts you already know so you do not repeat work; this will highlight the course blocks as proficient, or orange/red.
Each day you will do the math problems from ONE of the boxes:
Starting from unit 1, you will need to click the blocks that need your attention; these blocks are either empty or red/orange. Your goal is to eventually fill in all the boxes of all the units. Watch the videos when needed.
When you finish your pre-algebra block for the day, close it and do your grade 8 lesson.
Math must challenge us, but if you find it is too overwhelming and it is burning you out, then focus on the grade 8 course.

NB: print out, file, & complete only the assessments, then use the answer key provided for marking and corrections.
AI can also sometimes help you break down the problem into steps (only if you need assistance!).
You can give yourself 2-3 days to complete each assessment.
