Easter Dot Painting
Don’t you love Easter! The happy colours, patterns and of course the bunny and egg-shaped chocolates. I have no idea of the story behind the bunnies and eggs, but I always make sure to share the real meaning of Easter, with a couple of chocolates in my mouth. Jokes aside, and in all sincerity, it is a time of remembrance of Christ’s resurrection from the dead. He showed us NEW LIFE by overcoming the grave. So I make sure to correlate the eggs and bunnies to new life. An ABUNDANT life!
Easter is a lovely time to do something creative; since my eldest and I have recently viewed a couple of videos on dot painting, I decided to use the Easter occasion to use this form of art. Children generally love painting, yet dot painting is an alternative form of painting and may pose a different challenge. If your child has never done dot painting, it may seem somewhat “strange” as it it very tempting to “stroke it out”.
Although it may get a little use to, it is definitely a lot of fun to switch it up a little, and lead them to experiment with a technique that is somewhat unique!
Easter Dot Painting develop spatial awareness
Dot painting provides children opportunities to develop their spatial awareness since they need to be able to position dots correctly and close enough together to fill a space in an image. Since young children are still developing this skill, it would be better to practise on colouring pages before moving onto 3D objects.
It can still be challenging for children to know how to fill up picture spaces with dots, so I have created some dot-guided pages for you to download, which includes pages that do not have dot-guides for older or more confident kids.
How to use the Easter Dot Painting Printables
- Use the back of a pencil to apply dots of paint on the Easter pictures. For dots that are closer together you may use an ear bud.
- Depending on the age or the confidence of the child, use the pages with the dot-guides, or otherwise use the pages without the dot-guides.
- Where the line-spaces are too thin and cannot be filled with dots, leave them blank or colour in with a pencil or crayon.
